More Than Kids Play: The Serious Side Of Magnets In Manufacturing

Modern magnets are more than serious – just ask anyone familiar with plate magnets.  Often times when we hear about magnets we’ll refer back to our first experience with them, which was likely through a children’s toy or from our early childhood science class.  There is a very serious role that magnets play in manufacturing today that few know little about.

While magnets were first discovered for their serious contribution to society and began appearing in literature around 625 BC, and were first used in surgery by Indian surgeon Sushruta, and early Chinese literature referenced the needle of a compass and its magnetic properties in the 4th century, magnets have been around forever, and continue to serve society in a multitude of ways.

Specifically in manufacturing and processing, the science of magnetism is the industry-tested, proven method to remove impurities, and other undesirables.  Manufacturing and food and drug processing have benefited most.  Magnets have the ability to attract impurities and undesirables from both bulk dry and liquid goods, with a force field strong enough to attract even the smallest particles and provide for safe removal.

Plate magnets are the types of magnets used in the purity process of manufacturing.  They provide a magnetic field throughout chutes, ducts, and pipes to draw out ferrous and or impure material.  If impure particles were not removed, this could harm the consumer or the machinery and contaminate the finished product.  The surface of the plate magnet often has Ferroplate added to resist abrasion, allowing the ferrous material to be wiped away thus avoiding recontamination once an impurity is attracted to the magnet.  Many magnets are stationary, and some more modern options include hinges allowing magnets to swivel allowing for simplified cleaning procedures.  The most common magnet used is the permanent magnet.  Not permanently magnetized, they can consistently provide up to 10 years of strong magnetism, thus reducing the need for replacements considerably.

Neodymium permanent magnets are well-liked because the strength of the magnetic field helps to ensure even the smallest and weakest ferrous material is caught and removed.  Neodymium magnets are key in food processing also for their strong magnetic field, offering typically five times more magnetism than ceramic magnets.  This is especially smart in attracting foreign and or dangerous material through liquid and dry goods.  Because product purity is critical in the pharmaceutical industry, it also uses magnets in its processing to ensure purity.

Overall, plate magnets are critical to modern manufacturing and processing, aiding in the delivery of uncontaminated, pure finished products.  Permanent magnets are preferred for their resistance to demagnetization, and Ferroplate is key to reducing the risk of recontamination.  Plate magnets are widely available through both local retailers and online, both offering a variety of sizes and prices for nearly every requirement and available budget.

Seeking Affordable Colorado Springs Insurance

When you think about purchasing a vehicle, you need to budget for auto insurance. The purchase of a car is only the first monetary obligation you will need to prepare to pay. You must consider the cost of upkeep on the vehicle which includes tires and oil changes, gas, and any other repairs that need to be done to keep it in working order. Fortunately, however, you can secure affordable Colorado Springs insurance that will keep you in budget.

Another expenditure you will need to figure in your budget is the cost to register and tag the vehicle. The cost of your yearly registration typically falls on your birthday and is calculated by the Motor Vehicle Department. You will need to provide them with the VIN number of the car. The first time that you register the vehicle in your name, you will need to pay the tax that is calculated by the price you paid for the car. The price you paid is usually on the title that is transferred to you.

If you decide to purchase a pre-owned car or truck, make an appointment with a mechanic to check it over to determine that there are no obvious problems. If the mechanic finds anything that will need to be fixed, ask the seller to reduce the cost if you want the car. If not, look elsewhere to find one that is more suitable and affordable.

When seeking Colorado Springs insurance, find an agent or company in your local area. Insurance companies are very competitive, so prepare to get a few quotes from more than one office. If you want to make your search easier, consult with an insurance broker. A broker has access to many insurance companies to get multiple quotes. Your initial visit with a broker will be to gather information on your insurance needs. This is a very convenient method of choosing the right insurance company to purchase your auto insurance.

If you are purchasing a new vehicle, the cost of your insurance will be a little higher because you are insuring a more expensive item. You will be required to purchase insurance that will cover the cost of the car and loan. If you are purchasing a vehicle at a higher price than the value of the vehicle, you will be asked to purchase gap insurance.

Purchasing a car is a big responsibility that is very rewarding for your independence. A Colorado Springs insurance agent will be able to assist you in making the right decision for the amount of insurance you will need. You may find that you can get a discount once you have established a good driving record by having no accidents or tickets.
